About Us
Dar California in Arabic means “California Home”. We are a Californian-Egyptian family business specializing in high-quality, natural fiber bags. We focus on using 100% Egyptian Cotton for our market bags and accessories. We are excited about expanding our product lines and supporting our local communities!
Our Story
At Dar California, being socially and environmentally responsible is integral to our business model. We provide safe and stable employment to historically marginalized individuals and communities. Our employees are often displaced from their home countries. As refugees they have previously struggled to find safe employment. We also care deeply about employing women. We insist on equal pay for equal work in a country where women generally earn 30-50 percent of a man's pay. We adamantly believe in safe working conditions. Employees have ample access to Covid-related PPE and hygiene training. Additionally, our employees are also provided with regular profession-related training to continually build their capacity and skills.
Delivery & Returns
Our bags are one of a kind! This is due to our fabrics being hand cut and assembled using treadle powered straight stitch sewing machines (no use of electricity).
Your bag may have slight variations to the pictures on the website. Each piece is a labor of love. Our bags are partially handmade, therefore each may be a tiny bit unique to all the others in its batch. Our tailors are excellent, and our products have a <1cm variance to the set standard.
When you place an order, your bags will be shipped in 1-2 business days. We currently use USPS for shipping. Costs will be calculated at checkout. Deliveries typically arrive within 7. Holiday deliveries may take a little bit longer.
We accept exchanges on all unused items within 30 days. We accept returns on all unused items within 30 days. All sales are final on items marked as "clearance".
We currently deliver to the United States and Canada. For other international orders, please email info@darcalifornia.com and we can arrange special shipping.
